Researchers REVEAL the secret of how the ancient Egyptians built the pyramids

For centuries, the construction of Egypt’s pyramids, particularly the Great Pyramid of Giza, has puzzled historians, archaeologists, and engineers alike. Now, a groundbreaking study may have finally unlocked the secrets of how these ancient wonders were built.

Α team of researchers from the University of Αmsterdam, working in collaboration with Egyptian archaeologists, has discovered compelling evidence of an innovative method employed by the ancient Egyptians to transport massive limestone and granite blocks across the desert. The key? Water.td

The study, recently published in the journal Science Αdvances, reveals that the ancient Egyptians used a system of wetting sand to reduce friction as they hauled heavy stones on sledges. By pouring water onto the sand ahead of the sledges, they created a slick surface that allowed workers to move the colossal stones with significantly less effort.

“This technique demonstrates the ingenuity and practical understanding of physics possessed by the builders of the pyramids,” said lead researcher Dr. Mark van der Zwan. “The wet sand not only made the task more manageable but also prevented the sledges from digging into the desert floor, streamlining the process.”td

Further evidence supporting this theory comes from an ancient wall painting found in the tomb of Djehutihotep, a 12th Dynasty governor. The artwork depicts workers pulling a large statue on a sledge, with a person pouring water onto the sand. This image, long overlooked, has now become a key piece of evidence in unraveling the pyramid construction mystery.

In addition to the wet sand technique, the researchers also highlighted the use of advanced engineering principles, such as carefully designed ramps and precise mathematical calculations, to ensure the structural integrity of the pyramids.td

This discovery sheds light not only on the technical prowess of the ancient Egyptians but also on their ability to organize and execute large-scale projects with limited resources. It is a testament to human innovation and the enduring allure of one of history’s greatest architectural feats.
